Trip Info

Duration: ~10 Hours

The tour begins with a pickup from either the Redlava office or your La Fortuna area lodging. A bilingual naturalist guide will accompany you throughout the day, providing insights about the nature, history, and geology of the area.

The first stop is La Fortuna Waterfall. A tractor cart takes you uphill to a panoramic viewpoint, followed by a trek down a jungle staircase to the canyon’s bottom. Along the way, you’ll cross a suspension bridge and be captivated by the sights and sounds of the waterfall. At the base, you can swim in the crystal-clear water and marvel at the lush vegetation and volcanic rocks.

After the hike back up, you’ll visit the Maleku Indian village to learn about their culture, art, and history, with handicrafts available for purchase. A typical lunch will be provided, followed by a visit to the Arenal Volcano reserve.

A trail through lava rocks leads to the base of the Arenal, offering panoramic views of the Arenal lake, jungle, Northern Valley, surrounding lava fields, and the volcano itself. Descending, you’ll explore a primary forest trail, home to diverse flora and fauna, including tropical birds, amphibians, monkeys, coatis, and sloths.

The tour concludes with a relaxing soak at the Relax termalitas natural hot spring resort, located at the foot of the volcano. Enjoy ten different pools with varying temperatures and a complimentary cocktail. Around 5:30 pm, a bus will return you to your departure point.

Please note that the itinerary is flexible and may vary depending on group pace, traffic, and other unforeseen circumstances.
