Bioluminescence is common in marine invertebrates and certain fungi, microorganisms including some bioluminescent bacteria, and terrestrial invertebrates such as fireflies. The light is produced in two ways, either bacteriologically, by symbiotic organisms such as Vibrio bacteria, or autogenically, produced by the animals themselves.
